Some of the most influential people agree that you can turn your dreams into reality. It's called manifestation. It's the process of taking a thought, a dream, a goal, or a vision and choosing the necessary steps to make them a reality. So anything you can daydream about, you can create in your life.
I wish it was that easy...just think it up, and it will happen! However, nothing will ever get accomplished if you don't think about your goals and make a plan to achieve them!
So, this year, I decided to create my very first vision board!
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board represents your goals containing images and text representing what you are trying to accomplish.
Don't stress! There are no rules for creating your own board; it's just about creating a visual that inspires you and organizes your dreams! You can create a singular board for specific goals, such as personal goals or professional goals, or you can be like me and do a general one for 2022.
Does It Really Work?
According to Psychology Today, mental practices (like visualization) can increase motivation, confidence, and even motor performance. In fact, in one study, researchers found that, in athletes, visualization was almost as effective as physical practice. Also, Reese Witherspoon believes in it, and well, if Reese thinks it works...that's good enough for me! :)
Also, I have to be honest, it was really fun!
So What Are The Steps?
Step One:
First, reflect on last year and what you accomplished. Then think about your goals for 2022. I took time to think about all aspects of my life: wife, mom, blogger, adjunct, sister, daughter, friend, dog mom, embroiderer....and then created goals for each. Then break down all these goals and focus on what really matters for you during 2022.
Step Two:
Now, this is the fun part! Go through old magazines, newspapers, catalogs, etc...that you have in the house. You can also go to Pinterest, Instagram, or Google to find pictures. Then start cutting out anything that inspires you.
Step Three:
I found an old piece of scrapbook paper and started gluing. I put the pictures that inspired me first. Then I began adding text. It's crazy what you can find when you really start looking! Then just glue away.
I also added a boarder...just to make it prettier! :)
Step Four:
Now, for your vision board to work, you need to put the board in a place that you will regularly see! You can't take the time to reflect on your goals and create your board, and then just hide it where you will not see it anymore.
Find a place you know you will see every day as a reminder. Also, don't worry if you don't want to put a big poster somewhere in your house. You can make a smaller board if that would be better for you or your decor or make a virtual one and use it as your home screen on your phone or computer.
I put my board in my bathroom, where I get ready. It's in a place that I can see every day, but it's hidden when you walk into the room.
Now, it's time to see it every day. Time to remind yourself each day of your goals and your vision for 2022.
If you make a vision board, please share it with me on Instagram @theoldrivernest. I would love to see it and hear about your goals for 2022.
Cheers to a Happy and Healthy New Year,
amber :)
Oh, and In Case You Need a Planner...
Coop bought me this one for Christmas. I usually just use a spiral notebook, but this one is pretty helpful. It has all kind of options, and I'm excited to use it this year.
Here are a few of the features it offers.
Each month you can write down monthly goals, your plan of action, big ideas, and minor details.
Also, a monthly budget section. Cam has granted me the title of CFO for the Schluens' family, so I know I'll be using this section quite a bit!
Each week is broken into sections which is perfect for me to make my lists. I also like that it encourages you to find people to thank for the week, jot down your weekly wins (always keep it positive) and even has boxes to check off. For list makers like myself, you can't get much better.
Finally, like all planners you have a monthly view to keep your schedule aligned!
If you are in the lookout for a planner, here are a few other options if you don't want to use the Lake + Loft one.
